AMUSF ESSENTIAL SOFT FURNISHINGS

The soft furnishings Essentials course is a single stage qualification delivered over a year, one day a week.  Students are taught a variety of techniques in class before producing under guidance the following pieces for marking:

  • A pair of full-length interlined curtains with a hand-stitched heading and decorative detail

  • A roman blind with decorative detail

  • A piped scatter cushion with decorative detail and closure

  • A bolster cushion with decorative detail and concealed zip

  • A box cushion in a striped or checked fabric with piped edges and zip

  • A portfolio project to include design ideas, textile samples, window treatment suspension systems, order of work for projects and essential paperwork, costings, estimates, workroom sheets, invoices, terms and conditions

We are currently taking applications for the course beginning in September 2023.  It will be taught by Wendy Shorter MBE on Sunday, 9.30am-4.30pm, for 36 weeks Sept-July with half-terms and holidays in line with Hertfordshire schools.
